Not Again!

Most of us already know the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.  We are doing a book at bible study “If You Want to Walk on Water You’ve Got to Get out Of the Boat” by John Ortberg.  What really sticks out to me about that story is that Joseph received his coat which for many of us represented the calling that was on his life.  God even showed him the plan that he had for him, how his brothers would one day bow down to him.  Soon his brothers were so jealous of him that they stripped him of his coat and sold him into slavery.

He later found himself working for Potipher.  Again, he was given a coat as he became the overseer of the house.  Reminded of the promises that God had shown him, he worked diligently where he was planted.  Potipher’s wife tried to seduce him.  In an attempt not to fall into temptation he ran and Potipher’s wife grabbed his coat stripping him of his coat once again.

It’s funny that Joseph was stripped of his coat not once but twice and was down to nothing when God had promised him so much.  I mean why keep showing me these things if I can’t have them??  Why give me these beautiful coats…only to have them stripped away?  But DELAY doesn’t mean DENIAL.  Many of us feel as though our dreams have been stripped from us.  That God’s prophesy for our life still has not come to pass.  But I like the message version of Acts 1:7 “You don’t get to know the time.  Timing is the Father’s business…”  Every dream that God has given you will come to pass in His timing.  You don’t have to understand you just have to be obedient.  Trust God in the midst of adversity.
